KARIN
Karin picked up the hiking bug in university, but didn't really do too much until the mountains of Vancouver drew her in. She spent a number of years in Calgary and was a very active volunteer with the Calgary Outdoor Club, before going back to the coast earlier this year. She's most at peace outside, between the sea and the mountains.

She's been running on-and-off since grade seven and worked at a freakishly successful running store on Denman in Vancovuer as a clerk and clinic instructor, but likes the ease and atmosphere of Outdoor Club run groups better (much more welcoming). She's run several half marathons, and finally a full marathon, Chicago!, in Oct 2008.

Karin frequently rows and kayaks on the coast. In early 2009, she moved back to Vancouver and decided to start the Vancouver Outdoor Club based on her experiences with the COC.

Check out Karin's profile on the COC!

Rhonda Scheurer
Rhonda was the founder of the Calgary Outdoor Club and has helped found a few other clubs in our Outdoor Club family, including Toronto and Calgary. Vancouver came online in early 2009 after long-time COC volunteer, Karin, moved to Vancouver. She now helps out as the club's Webmaster, responsible for:
* Updating content on static informational pages on web site
* Updating web site options for site formatting and functioning
* Updating announcements on club home page
* Creating and updating club e-mail addresses/forwarders
* Updating volunteer credentials, photos and bios as required.
* Answering e-mail inquiries sent to webmaster@vancouverregionaloutdoorclub.com

Event Coordinator
Andrew
Andrew was born in Ottawa, however moved many times during child and early adulthood throughout North America before settling in the Vancouver area 24 years ago.

The outdoor opportunities in this area are amazing and Andrew is particularly interested in kayaking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, biking and camping.

Andrew and spouse Denise have a property on Gabriola island and welcome small groups of VROC members to join them and experience the many outdoor experiences there.

Event Coordinator
Ciara
I spent some time in Vancouver while on vacation during the summer of this year (2011), and liked it so much that I decided to move here! So I've been here since October and so far, I am very happy with my decision.

I am originally from Ireland and am currently enjoying a 'career break' from my work back home (Elementary Teacher - not sure that it's for me, or that I'm for it!?), so I decided to embark on an adventure and move to a new country by myself! :)

I love the outdoors and very much enjoy hiking, cycling and skiing (although I am quite terrible at skiing at the moment as I only tried it for the first time last year). I am also hoping to do some kayaking and snow-shoeing whilst here in Vancouver (in the appropriate seasons obviously!) and am basically willing to give any of the organised VROC events a try and 'explore my horizons'!

My other interests include playing basketball, swimming, yoga (in an attempt to 'fit-in' here in Vancouver, I figured I should give it a try and I am really liking it so hope to continue attending classes!) and, last but not least, my other main interest is comedy. I recently took my interest in attending comedy gigs to a slightly elevated level when I started doing a few open mic slots in some venues back home in Ireland, and since I've been to Vancouver, I've also had the opportunity to do a couple of open mics here, which I have enjoyed very much. (Here comes the disclaimer) ....I am very new to the comedy scene however, so, if any of you should attend any of the comedy events I coordinate, apologies in advance if I don't do particularly well, but I'm just learning!? There will be other, more qualified and seasoned comedians at each show though, so you will be satisfactorily entertained by someone - that I can guarantee! :)

Event Coordinator
Denise
Denise has always enjoyed the outdoors but has really made it more of a focus in the last couple years. She finds getting away into nature a relaxing way to unwind from her busy schedule.

Hiking and camping are at the top of her list of favorite outdoor activities to do and she has done lots of hiking and some great camping trips since joining VROC. She has also done some hiking trips to the States to check out new terrain.

A close second is snowshoeing on the many local trails. She is looking at getting into cross-country skiing as another way to enjoy some new sights.

Denise loves all the outdoor opportunities that the Lower Mainland has to offer and hopes to keep exploring new ones with other VROCers in her role as coordinator.

Event Coordinator
Frank
As a former Seattleite I've spent much too much time lost in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. After being exiled form the US, I'm busy exploring the BC backwoods, and enjoying this great city. I love a great hike, or snowshoe, or a good game of tennis. Bicycling is great too, even if it's only to get to work. I look forward to seeing you all on that next hike.

Event Coordinator
George
George was born in BC and raised on the Island & Interior of BC with a few years outside of the province & continent. George has recently moved back to BC, from Calgary, where he enjoyed participating in the Calgary Outdoor Club and now in the Vancouver Regional Outdoor Club.

He is an avid Hockey Player, although currently looking for a new team. He also enjoys other team sports, racquet sports, and also enjoy winter & water sports - anything outdoors. He is also trying to do many activities that will include the company of his faithful companion "Troy", who is a big, friendly Boxer.

He started coordinating events with VROC to give back to the club and help get VROC on its feet, as well as being able to post events in which he can include Troy. He also likes the social aspect of the club that lets him meet new people who have similar interests. You will probably find that a lot of his events where he tries to include some kind of drinks/coffee/food before or after the event for more social time amongst the group.

Event Coordinator
Izzy
Izzy has always been drawn to nature and grew up spending her summers in the Severn Bridge area of Ontario along the Trent Severn waterway where she was found in either a canoe, kayak or boat. While in university her summers were spent as a canoe/kayak counselor at an all girls camp in Maine, USA. Here she learned the power of a flowing river about the ocean currents and how nature is the one who is in control.

Izzy fell in love with the mountains and ocean breezes of the west coast when she visited Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics. She enjoys kayaking, swimming, trail walking, and most outdoor sports. Izzy finds herself most at peace anywhere along the water and has always maintained a view of the water from her home. Nature has always been something that she has admired and brings it into her work as an art therapist, finding any opportunity she can to have her clients work outside on the beach, in the forest/woodlands or just using natural materials to express themselves.

Izzy always takes time to smell the roses and is not a peak seeker. Her activities will always include time to appreciate the environment and how it can benefit the soul.

Event Coordinator
Ken
Ken was born and raised in Aldergrove BC, but now has made Vancouver his home for the past 10 years. He enjoys many sports including rollerblading, tennis, hiking, squash, and snowboarding. He also enjoys watching movies, picnics, walking in the park, and meeting new people.

You'll find him participating and coordinating rollerblading, tennis, hiking, and squash.

His pace is moderate and he is a fair-weather outdoor person. He likes to stick to the itinerary, but it also depends on the situation of the weather and the mood of the people that are with him.
